The title of this video has been my biggest question since the Universe, I mean me, began. Actually the way I phrased it is, 'Was there ever nothing?'

What is important, as Hawking discovered, that the positive energy of matter and energy in our universe is equal to the negative potential energy of gravity -- so this is the zero energy universe! It had zero net energy in the beginning of the Big Bang and universe still has total energy of zero. This is why a quantum fluctuation might have been the start and it still has zero energy which certainly does help think that there could be a multiverse- but we don’t know yet.
